100-Year Birthday Celebration Plans

NORTH LITTLE ROCK CENTENNIAL FESTIVITIES TO INCLUDE BICYCLE TREKS.

North Little Rock Alderman Charlie Hight will host a pair of Centennial Bicycle Rides to provide a unique view of one of the City’s most valuable assets:  the North Shore River Walk along the Arkansas River.  “We are proud of the Riverwalk” stated Hight, “that provides a picturesque promenade featuring the Arkansas River and wonderful vistas of  Ft. Roots and the Burns Park area.”  Participants are invited to assemble on Saturday morning, May 1 at the main entrance to the Riverwalk located immediately south of the North Little Rock Wyndham Hotel.  Two Routes invite participants to travel east on a 33 mile tour or travel west on a leisurely 14 mile loop beginning at the Riverwalk, continuing on to Murry Lock and Dam and back to the Riverwalk.

Participants are encouraged to begin assembling at 8:30 to qualify for a free Centennial Bicycle Tee-Shirt awarded to the first 150 cyclists to register.  Early arrivals are eligible for a free breakfast provided by the North Little Rock Prayer Breakfast Committee.  The Prayer Breakfast will officially launch the Centennial Celebration and will be located on the banks of the Arkansas River between the I-30 Bridge and the Main Street Bridge.  “We will begin our rides at 9:30 am”, continued Alderman Hight, “and we hope to finish not later than 10:45 Saturday morning.”  Hight stated that he expects between 75 and 150 cyclists of all ages and abilities to participate.  The Centennial Bicycle Events are sponsored by the North Shore Business Park and National Home Centers.
