Heavy Equipment Operator- Parks Maintenance Department-14087

Hours: Full-Time

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Valid class A CDL or the ability to obtain one within 6 months from date of hire, and a good driving record. Two (2) years of directly related experience operating heavy equipment.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Operates a variety of heavy equipment used in construction and maintenance in the North Little Rock park system.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Operates a bulldozer to grade, clear and/or landscape land in the parks system. Operates a backhoe to dig ditches, trenches, or holes for construction and to clean and maintain ditches, streams, and culverts. Operates a grader (or motor patrol) daily to grade infields in the parks ball fields, to grade gravel roads and parking lots, and to keep gravel pulled to edges of paved roadways. Operates a front loader, forklift, and/or Ditch-witch daily for a variety of construction and maintenance projects. Operates an augur as needed to set poles, install lights or maintain lights in park ball fields and other park properties. Operates a roller, boom truck, bucket truck, pole truck, tractor/tiller, tractor with box blades, and chainsaw frequently in a variety of construction and maintenance projects. Operates a gradall or linkbelt excavator, tracked front loader, and/or street sweeper occasionally in a variety of construction and maintenance projects. Could be required to operate an asphalt paver, salt/sand spreader/flush truck, vacall, poison spray rig, bush hog, rough cut mower, out front mower, tractor/bush hog, riding mower, top dresser, jackhammer, trimmer, compactor and/or edger on an infrequent basis in a variety of construction and maintenance projects. Drives a one or two ton truck and a dump truck, a tractor/trailer rig to haul equipment, and a water truck occasionally. Performs preventative maintenance checks on all equipment used.

Light Equipment Operator - Street Dept. - 14040

POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Valid Class A CDL with no restrictions and a good driving record. * One (1) year of directly related experience operating light equipment. * NOTE: Qualified applicants who do not possess the required license may be hired conditioned on their obtaining the required license within 90 days of hire.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves on any of three crews and operates a variety of light equipment used in the installation, repair, and maintenance of City streets and other related City properties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Operates equipment on any one of three crews: Operates rubber tire front end loader, asphalt spreader, oil distributor, mower, bushhog with tractor, street sweeper, poison spray rig, boom truck, backhoe, flush truck, forklift, and vacall; rubber tire roller, bulldozer, track front end loader; salt/sand spreader and snow plow; a gradall excavator or motor grader; assists the Heavy Equipment Operator with the operation of the asphalt paver by working controls on the rear of the paver; Drives various vehicles: a ton or ton pickup, 1 ton flat bed dump truck, 6 yd, 10 yd, or 14 yd tandem axle dump truck; tractor with dump trailer or lowboy trailer, 2 ton flat bed dump truck, a tractor-trailer rig or tractor with a gooseneck trailer. Loads and unloads equipment. Uses hand tools or equipment: uses a shovel and compactor; chainsaw, jackhammer, sledgehammer, limbsaw, axe, pick, rake, and Kaiserblade; weedeater, lopping shears, pitchfork, and street broom.
